Hop:
This cider is brewed with the aromatic hop cascade, which is also known from beer brewing. As early as the early Middle Ages, brewers began to use the good properties of hops. The bitters of the plant stabilize and clarify the brew and the flavors contribute to the amazing flavor that is also used in Snoremark's cider.
The hop plant is a vigorous grower and can shoot up a few feet in the right conditions. As such, hops are often considered a weed in modern gardens, but hops used to be a common crop in Denmark and many farms cultivated them for their own brewing. The annual hop harvest in September was a crowd puller. Helpers came to the farms from near and far. It was common knowledge that nine months after the hop harvest no children were born. Today it has been shown that hop scents can have an estrogen-like effect. Perhaps the large amounts of hops in the air delayed ovulation until after harvest.
As many have learned, hops have a calming effect. During World War I, a German field doctor recommended that soldiers put hops in small bags under their pillows. It would help them get some sleep despite the horrors of war.
We recommend drinking Snoremarks cider with hops as an aperitif or with the cheese board, or even as a nightcap.
