What is beer with honey or honey beer?

What is honey beer

Honey beer is a beer that is brewed with the addition of honey. The honey is added to the wort or green beer, which means that its sugar ferments and the beer becomes only slightly sweeter.

Alternatively, finished beer can be heated and thus pasteurized and then honey added. It is actually a mixed beer drink, which is unofficially also called honey beer. This has a strong sweet honey taste. The alcohol content of honey beer varies between 4,9% and 8% depending on the variety.

How it all started...

The Germans already added honey to their beer brewed from emmer and barley, based on the honey wine mead. This was determined when examining Germanic drinking horns. In the Middle Ages (before the discovery of hops for brewing), honey beer had a longer shelf life because honey contains natural preservatives taken from bees.
