In 1948 Alfred Krupp started making ceramics. With the knowledge acquired at the technical school for ceramics in Höhr-Grenzhausen and some practice as a journeyman potter, he started in his parents' former goat stable. The first flower vases made of red-firing Niederahrer clay were made on a borrowed potter's wheel. The first firing took place in a home-made wood-fired kiln.
In 1992 Klaus and Margit Krupp took over the company. In the course of the next few years, the focus of production was shifted, the range expanded and some of the production switched to mechanical production. Today the company presents the largest collection of drinking vessels and tableware made of red clay. "AKRU" has been a registered and protected trademark since the beginning of 2004.
